Artist’s Statement

My creative process embraces the entire quilting process, from the concept to the final stitch. Carefully considered designs form irregular latticework across a background fabric. Improvised structures playfully travel across the surface. Whatever the design method, there is always a contrast between solid form and open spaces.

A finished quilt top is a new opportunity for creativity, for testing the power of the quilting to elevate the design. It becomes a canvas on which to experiment, adding dimension through textures and balancing heavily quilted areas with minimally treated spaces. I seek to amplify a piece’s dynamics with thoughtful stitch embellishment.

Each of my quilts informs the next exploratory direction as I continue to grow with my work. My focus is innovation that energizes me to keep exploring. Ultimately, my art embraces the privilege of creative expression as an enriching personal journey.
