Lectures
The Journey of a Hand Quilter– How does one progress from experimenting with traditional block patterns and techniques to creating work that is unique to them using lessons learned along the way? This is one person’s experience.
Following a Thread– So often we are unaware of the threads that run as a constant through our lives and our creative work. Lauren shares early quilt samples that reflect her graphic design work with type and foreshadow the path her current work would follow. In the course of tracing this progress, listeners are encouraged to examine their own body of work, and to look for strengths that can help define their unique perspectives.
Workshops
Familiarity with a wide range of techniques strengthens the students’ ability to express their individuality and bring personal satisfaction. The more skills the creator has at their fingertips the more freedom they have to execute their vision. Horizons open before us when we are not limited by our skill sets.
My goal in offering workshops is to introduce the quilting artist to techniques and methods that they can add to their “creativity tool box.” Workshops are focused on small projects in the hope that they will be completed and serve as a reference point for future projects, as opposed to adding yet another piece to UFO or WIP collections.
Each of the following workshops only require two fat quarters and batting to size, as well as a very modest supply list.
Hand Quilting Sampler Workshop
Introduces the student to hand quilting options to elevate their work, in this time honored approach to “sampling” hand stitch work. After discussing design options, students are given the freedom to design the layout of their sampler and to experiment with any combination of the stitches presented, including running stitch, seed stitch, echo quilting, blanket stitch, and more.

Reverse Appliqué Workshop
Using the “HOPE” template as a starting point, students are introduced to designing with type and brainstorm ways to alter the template for their own interpretation of the word “HOPE” which is then executed in the reverse appliqué technique. The “spotlight word” for this workshop can be substituted upon request.
